Solar power: turning up the heat

Liddell solar thermal station ( the world's first solar-coal fired power augmentation facility) in Australia, installed by AREVA Solar.

AREVA Solar designs, manufactures and installs solar steam generators for the global power generation and industrial steam needs of its customers in a dependable, market-competitive and environmentally responsible manner.
It provides turnkey solutions using Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector (CLFR), which is the most cost-effective and land-efficient Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology.

CSP: tomorrow’s technology today

Solar energy technology is a rapidly expanding field with many innovative solutions that strive to best harness the sun’s energy.

Using CSP, AREVA Solar also leverages its historical expertise in thermal technology, fluid mechanics and heat transfer to best serve utility companies.

Customers can be assured that AREVA’s Solar steam generators meet the highest quality assurance standards. AREVA is proud to be the first solar steam power boiler manufacturer to receive the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ "S" Stamp Certificate of Authorization – the industry hallmark of acceptance and certification.

With CLFR technology, the company is able to produce superheated steam at high temperatures and pressures, up to 400°C (750°F) and 106 bar (1535 psia), which allows us to optimize the needs of power generation and industrial steam users.

CLFR: a trustworthy CSP technology

AREVA Solar has made the Compact Linear Fresnel Reflector (CLFR) its CSP technology.

Main advantages of CLFR technology:

  • Design simplicity which leads to lower costs,
  • Land efficiency,
  • The ability to generate superheated steam at high temperatures and pressures.
  • Use of standard commodity materials that allow for local sourcing,
  • Environmental benefits.

Kimberlina Solar Thermal Energy Plant

The concentrated solar thermal energy plant in Kimberlina (Bakersfield, California), is the first plant to be linked to the Californian network for 20 years. It depends on CLFR technology (Compact Linear Fresnel Reflection) that uses mirrors to concentrate the sun's rays and to produce steam.

Providing power to the "sun belt"

AREVA Solar improves utilities’ energy mix either by building new CO2-free plants or by boosting the capacity of existing plants with solar generated steam.
AREVA CSP installations can also provide solar steam for a variety of industrial processes.

Did you know?

In terms of land usage per MWe of capacity, CLFR is the most land-efficient solar technology.

Innovation in action

Over 1GWe increase in concentrated solar power capacity worldwide in 2009.
