A range of generation III+ reactors
AREVA provides utilities with its expertise in the design and construction of nuclear power plants. Its range of reactors is based on the latest generation models (III+).
With AREVA's solutions, the plant operators meet the challenges they face:
- Observance of their safety obligations,
- Increased production of electricity, to meet growth in demand while remaining competitive,
- Preservation of the planet and its natural resources.
AREVA supports its clients in the design and construction of all or part of their plant (nuclear steam supply system, nuclear island, entire plant). 100 of the 300 light water reactors currently in use around the world are AREVA achievements, which is an indisputable asset for customers in managing the cost and lead time of their projects.
Field Report #9 : Project Delivery
On October 23, the Taishan 1 EPR™ reactor built in China by TNPJVC reached a major milestone with the successful dome lifting.
Find out how this achievement is a good illustration of AREVA’s ability to convert lessons learned captured from Olkiluoto 3 and Flamanville 3 into solid results.
A response to new demands
The current range of reactors provides a combination of power levels - from 1100 to more than 1650 MWe - and technological approaches customized to each requirement.
It consists of three generation III+ models: the EPR™, ATMEA1 and KERENA reactors, all of them meeting the latest requirements:
- Safety: Resistance to plane crashes etc.
- Competitiveness: Reduction of fuel consumption and best-in-class environmental performance, and 92% availability,
- Flexibility: Fast load follow to optimize the response to electricity demand
The group's future projects in the field of Research and Development will lead to even better safety, business performance and preservation of natural resources.
EPR™ reactor - 1,650 MWe
ATMEA1™ - 1,100 Mwe reactor
KERENA™ reactor - 1,250 Mwe
This pressurized water reactor is the first generation III+ model ever built. Its electrical production capacity of more than 1,650 MWe places it among the most powerful reactors in the world.
ATMEA1™ is a 1,100 MWe reactor, suited to all types of electrical networks, in particular to mid-sized networks. It will especially benefit utilities already acquainted with the pressurized water technology. It is designed and developed jointly by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and AREVA NP, in their joint company, ATMEA.
This reactor is a 1,250 MWe reactor, suited to all types of electrical networks, in particular to mid-sized networks. It will especially benefit utilities already acquainted with the boiling water technology. It is designed on the basis of the latest reactors of the Gundremmingen power plant (Germany).
