Crucial challenges for the planet’s future

Climate change, energy security, access to energy, nuclear safety, resource protection, pollution, access to healthcare and economic development are among the complex issues that affect AREVA’s strategic and operational decisions.
Through its sustainable development approach, the group aims to produce energy in a responsible way by managing costs, preserving the environment and encouraging development of staff and of local communities.
Leadership and responsability of AREVA
AREVA offers its customers high-tech solutions for carbon-free power generation: nuclear, wind energy, solar, biomass and fuel cells. The products and the processes that the group is implementing include risks that need to be brought under control. Its employees are therefore committed to sustainable development for the effective management of economic, environmental and social challenges confronting their businesses.
To do this, the group is following the AREVA Way, structured around three aspects:
- COMMITMENT: defining its sustainable development commitments, translating them into policies and objectives,
- ACTION: establishing a management system for sustainable development performance to drive progressive actions,
- BEING: developing a sense of responsibility among all employees by promoting sustainable development values, awareness and know-how.

Continious improvement
The group's sustainable development policy is served by a commitment to ongoing improvement. It is implemented through a continuous improvement procedure based around 10 commitments. It is underpinned by specific management criteria that enable each entity to assess its own performance and define performance improvement plans that are consistent with the overall objectives. This process has led to the establishment of social and environmental performance indicators.
-
Listening and accountability
AREVA assumes its responsibilities as a corporate member of society. Because its operations may prompt questions, the group is dedicated to getting to know its stakeholders, to keeping them informed, to understanding what they want, and to building open and constructive dialog. Similarly, the group also reports publicly on developments in its programs and commitments through objective, controlled data.

Everyone's business
All of the company's businesses and departments are relevant to sustainable development. For day-to-day success, everyone in the organization is made to understand the challenges and to propose areas for improvement.
