FRANCE: INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

Nigerien nomad artist troupe in Romans
From July 3 to 11, 2010, the International Folklore Festival took place in Romans. AREVA supported the event by sponsoring the Nigerian Aourinde troupe.
THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY FESTIVAL
Organized by the Empi et Riaume association, this 33rd edition offered shows, street performances, an artist market, a dinner show, and schools visits in the Romans area.
Ten groups took to the streets. These musicians and dancers came from the 4 corners of the world: from Niger to the Basque region, passing through Easter Island, Mongolia, Georgia and Peru.
DISCOVERING THE PEUHL CULTURE
This year, FBFC, a loyal festival partner, sponsored the Nigerien Aourinde troupe, in partnership with AREVA’s sponsorship department. The artists are all natives of the desert around Abalak and Tchin-Tabaraden, 700 km north of Niamey. They are nomad artists, mainly from livestock farming families.
The partnership fits perfectly with the AREVA group’s sponsorship policy, as it is present in Niger and works towards the promotion of North-South intercultural exchange. The meetings organized during the festival enabled Romans FBFC personnel and schoolchildren to better understand the Peuhl culture.
MOBILIZED AGAINST FAMINE
To confront the famine that raged through the first half of 2010, a solidarity chain was formed during the 10 days of the festival. The goal: to help these livestock farmers acquire cattle.
