AUSTRALIA: SUPPORT FOR FIRE AND FLOOD VICTIMS

Mobilization of group employees
In 2009, while southeast Australia was experiencing extremely high temperatures and enormous, ravaging wildfires, a large part of the rest of the country was experiencing major floods. The AREVA Foundation responded to this national emergency call to aid the thousands of victims affected.
FIRES IN THE SOUTH, FLOODS IN THE NORTH
While wildfires are relatively common in Australia, the country had never experienced such a widespread catastrophe. In February 2009, more than 210 people died in massive wildfires, and 7 others died in Queensland following violent flooding. The fire destroyed thousands of homes and vast expanses of land were burned, while several thousand people were driven from their homes by flooding.
SUPPORT OF RED CROSS EFFORTS
Group employees based in Australia became involved and made a generous donation. Following their lead, the group also made a donation to the Red Cross. The organization used this funding to help individuals and communities in the cities and suburbs affected by fires in the state of Victoria.
