France: support for students from underprivileged backgrounds

Tremplin  association

The Tremplin association’s objective is to promote equal opportunity for students from underprivileged backgrounds by providing support to them during their undergraduate studies in the sciences.

Committed for the past eleven years

The association gets involved in two ways:

  • by offering more in-depth study of the sciences to motivated students in high schools located in high-priority educational areas of Paris and its environs to encourage them to pursue undergraduate studies;
  • by answering their need for scholastic, financial and personal support throughout their post-high school studies.

Offering students a suitable place to work

 Most of the students that Tremplin supports are preparing to take the competitive exam to enter a grande école d’ingénieurs (France's elite engineering schools). The two or three years it takes to prepare for the exam require a big investment in terms of work, most of it outside of the students' regular classes. These young people often live far away from their schools and lose a lot of time commuting, eating into the time they can spend on studies and potentially compromising their success.

Tremplin provides financial aid to underprivileged students by giving them housing grants for a room in a student boarding facility near their high school. The AREVA Foundation has chosen to support three of these students.

How the group’s employees get involved

 AREVA employees are volunteering to help these young people as mentors. They give them whatever advice and guidance they need so that, beyond the financial aid, they receive personalized support that gives them the necessary confidence to achieve their potential.
Currently, AREVA employees are providing help to 14 young people who are preparing for the competitive entrance exam to scientific universities and engineering schools.
