AREVA Foundation is supporting an early-learning program for young children (0 to 6 years old) to fight educational marginalization in the shantytowns of Pune and Bombay, India.
The overall goal of the project is to improve the children’s chances of success by intervening at an age when their learning and socialization abilities are being formed.
Assistance for the families
The project also provides assistance to families in the shantytowns by showing them the importance of their child’s proper development through early-learning activities, whose medical, psychological and social benefits are widely recognized.
For example, workshops with games, discussions and interaction are held for mothers and children under the supervision of social workers and workshop leaders.
The families are then re-contacted at home and the fathers are involved in the effort.
AREVA Foundation is providing assistance to 50 groups, for a total of 420 mothers and 503 children.
All of these families receive individual social assistance to help them resolve their main difficulties, particularly administrative problems such as claiming their rights or improving the family’s revenue.
