The group's high market visibility has made it possible to mark a new year of growth in profit for 2008. 2008 was marked by the establishment of new strategic partnerships and the signature of highly significant contracts in several of our operations.

Americas

  • AREVA and Duke Energy create a joint company, ADAGE, to develop biomass power plants in the United States.
  • AREVA and Northrop Grumman Corporation will be constructing the first site dedicated to the fabrication of heavy compounds for the American nuclear sector in Virginia.
  • AREVA takes a 70% capital share in Koblitz, supplier of turn-key solutions for the creation of low-power biomass and hydroelectric power plants in Brazil

Europe &CEI

  • AREVA and EDF are establishing the principles of a long-term cooperative effort with the signature of a framework agreement focusing on recycling of spent nuclear fuel for the period 2008-2040.
  • E.ON and AREVA sign a global cooperation agreement for production of nuclear energy: E.ON makes EPR™ its exclusive technology for all reactor projects in the UK and the two partners come together to pursue the development of KERENA, a 3+ generation 1,250 MW boiling water reactor.

Africa and the Middle East

  • Total, Suez, and AREVA have signed a partnership agreement in order to propose an integrated nuclear electricity production offer to the United Arab Emirates. This offer focuses on the delivery of two 1,600 MW EPR™ reactors as well as the products and services of the fuel cycle.
  • AREVA's T&D division wins the largest contract in its history in Qatar. Kahramaa, the general electricity and water utility company, will supply 14 gas-insulated substations at a price of approximately 500 M€.

Asia-Pacific

  • AREVA and Shanghai Electric, one of the largest Chinese manufacturers of mechanical and electric equipment, are signing a new agreement on the construction of two transformer plants. This partnership will enable them to triple their production capacity.
  • In Mumbai AREVA has signed the first contract for supply of uranium of a foreign origin since the re-opening of nuclear trading between India and the rest of the world.
