Providing rural populations with biogas equipment
AREVA has established a partnership with PlaNet Finance to develop access to renewable energy using microcredit financing schemes. This project aims to equip rural Chinese populations with biogas equipment.
Supplementary financing
The project extends over 3 years. Objective: to outfit Chinese people in Tongwei county (Gansu province) with biogas equipment using microcredit schemes.
This region in northwest China is one of the poorest in the country. Its 420,000 residents survive mainly on agriculture, which they are having difficulty developing. The region suffers from insufficient energy in particular.
This initiative will supplement a Chinese government program that has been subsidizing the cost of biogas equipment since 2005. In fact, many growers have insufficient financial resources to finance the remaining cost of the installations.
