Bedside music for sick children
Working together with the AREVA foundation, Joue-moi de la musique offers musical performances for hospitalized children at the Necker Hospital for Sick Children in Paris. This initiative allows children to forget their illness for awhile.
Les Musicoliers (France): supporting sick children
Since 2005, in partnership with AREVA, the organization Les Musicoliers has been introducing sick children in the Necker hospital in Paris to music. An afternoon alongside Pierre, artist, whose artistic mediation benefits even the smallest children, as well as their parents and the care teams.
Joue-moi de la musique increases hospitalized children’s awareness of the world of sound and music. Specially trained artists provide services in pediatric wards of hospitals (children’s rooms, sterile rooms or game rooms) to make the children's stay more bearable.
A long-term commitment
In 2005, AREVA established a partnership with les Musicoliers, later renamed Joue-moi de la musique.
This partnership covers the costs incurred by the organization for its musical performances at the Necker Hospital for Sick Children in Paris. Two units are involved:
- Doctor Sylvie Rosenberg-Reiner’s pre-anesthesia unit
- Professor Pierre Scheinmann’s respiratory-allergology-dermatology unit
Scheinmann emphasizes that these musical breaks are comforting and calming for children who suffer from serious illness and are hospitalized for an extended period of time in some cases. Thanks to Joue-moi de la musique, children are able to deal with their treatment and medication better, to regain composure more quickly after examinations and to forget their illness for a while.
Based on past success and the positive outcomes for patients, parents and health care teams, the AREVA Foundation has renewed this partnership annually so that more children will benefit from these musical escapes.
