Developing a taste for science
As a founding member of the Fondation C. Génial, AREVA supports the development of an interest in sciences among young people and the promotion of scientific and technical culture.
Businesses mobilize for science
The foundation, which is recognized for its contribution to the public good, was created in 2006 by AREVA, EADS, France Télécom, Schlumberger, SNCF and Technip.
A common project: to promote scientific and technical culture.
The foundation exists to:
- renew commitment to scientific progress among school children and students,
- develop exchanges among young people, the scientific community and businesses.
It also provides an opportunity for AREVA collaborators who want to volunteer with youth-oriented initiatives.
Knowledge sharing
Fondation C. Génial is involved in many different types of initiatives:
- Staff Training Projects (Travaux Personnels Encadrés, TPE) (11th grade):
- Proposes TPE subjects within more general topics defined by the French Ministry of Education
- Assists with TPEs
- Presentations in junior high and high schools (from eighth to 12th grades) on specific scientific or technical areas (e.g., energy, sustainable development, fission) or professions
- Welcoming educators in scientific and technical disciplines to businesses during the National Celebration of Science
- For example, in 2008, AREVA’s emergency organization hosted a group of educators at La Défense for a presentation on the control systems for nuclear power plant circuits and a simulator demonstration.
