India: Tisser la Paix
Solar-powered school in the Himalayas
With AREVA’s support, Tisser la Paix constructed a school fitted with solar panels. AREVA supports children's education in the Himalayan valley of Nubra.
Helping educate children
The old school was too small and dilapidated. With the new building, more children will be able to study in better conditions.
Thanks to a sufficient level of wintertime sunlight, a unique construction that circulates heated air from greenhouses, and passive solar heat that accumulates within the walls, the classrooms and dormitories can be heated. Children can therefore pursue their studies during the coldest months and continue to assist their parents in the fields during the summer.

The school was inaugurated in July 2010. Photos depict the event, which was attended by AREVA employees who sponsor students. The school will open its doors in March 2011 to the numerous students who attended the inauguration.
This Tisser la Paix project was also supported by group employees, who sponsor the schoolchildren.
