Biologie Sans Frontières

Biologie Sans Frontières was founded in 1992 by biology interns at hospitals in Lyon, doctors and pharmacists.

Objective: to provide volunteer assistance that helps laboratory biologists and technicians working in developing countries fulfill their roles in the health care system.

A benchmark center for Niamey

The Niamey National Hospital is the primary health care center in Niger and offers the best technical facilities in the public health care system.

The hospital has a theoretical capacity of 1,000 beds (103,000 outpatients were treated in 2007, one-third of whom were hospitalized).

It also has a 24-hour multi-purpose biomedical laboratory for performing tests in the areas of bacteriology, parasitology-mycology, biochemistry, immunology, hematology, hemostaseology and immuno-hematology. Finally, the hospital serves as a model laboratory for meningitis, yellow fever and measles

Equipment needs

Due to a lack of equipment, the Niamey National Hospital is facing serious operational challenges in fulfilling its main diagnostic mission.

The laboratory’s stated need for upgrades to its operating capability was confirmed following an inspection.

With this in mind, the AREVA Foundation has decided to support the purchase of equipment such as hematology devices and microscopes.
