The urban community of Arlit, the NGO Droit à l’Énergie and AREVA came together to provide electricity to 4 areas surrounding the city.
This project contributes to the fight against poverty by encouraging reassessment of the sanitary environment and the creation of revenue-generating activities. Activities that require access to electricity: handicrafts, sewing, food preservation, etc.
Electric power supply for districts in Arlit (Niger)
AREVA is financing the installation of electric power for outlying neighborhoods of Arlit, where the group has uranium mines. The president of the local electrification committee details the advantages of this development for economic activity in the area, in particular for craftsmen.
AREVA is committed to this project as a financial partner alongside the urban community of Arlit, the NGO Droit à l’Énergie and its Niger affiliate, the Collectif pour la Défense du Droit à l’Énergie au Niger.
An initial pilot phase was launched in the North Boukoki area. In the second phase, 3 other areas— South Boukoki, Tchtcheni and Bagdad—will be connected to the Nigelec network.
