In October 2005, following a violent earthquake in Pakistan, AREVA got involved with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The group provided aid to survivors during the winter.
AREVA supported the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies following an October 8, 2005 earthquake that ravaged northern Pakistan and India.
According to the Federation, thousands of survivors would have died of cold without adequate assistance during the winter. In the affected regions, needs continued to increase. Children and the elderly were in a particularly critical situation.
Through a donation of 100,000 euros, AREVA aimed to reinforce actions undertaken by group employees in the field.
AREVA’s help enabled the supply of tents, blankets, mattresses, stoves and hygiene items—essential items for the survivors.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies established a logistics and operations base in Mansehra, 125 kilometers north of Islamabad. From there, relief teams specialized in health care, water supply and sanitation were deployed to Pakistani provinces along the northwest border.
