Canberra Eurisys, a COGEMA subsidiary, has supplied 19 encapsulated germanium detectors to the Centre national d'études spatiales (CNES, the French Space Research Agency) and the Centre d'étude spatiale des rayonnements (CESR, the Center for Space Research on Radiation). The detectors, on board the Integral gamma satellite, were put into orbit some 150,000 km from earth by Proton, the Russian satellite launcher, on 17 October. The satellite's mission is to enhance knowledge of high-energy gamma-emitting celestial objects such as supernovae, neutron stars, black holes and quasars.
