Japan nuclear regulator confirms safety of MOX fuel

The Japanese Nuclear Safety Commission has confirmed that using mixed oxide (MOX) fuel at nuclear power plants is safe. It recommended increased safety measures to accommodate public concerns, and it confirmed its support for plans of the Japanese electricity industry to use MOx fuel in 16 to 18 nuclear reactors by 2010.
