EDF favors third generation reactor for new orders
Brief
October 30, 2002
At the ENC 2002 conference in Lille, France, EDF presented various scenarios for new reactor orders for the French nuclear power program in the 2020-2050 timeframe. Current schedules favor reliance on a third generation reactor such as the EPR or Westinghouse's AP 1000, at least initially. During a round table session, Bruno Lescoeur, executive vice president for power operations, stated that EDF would strongly defend the early launch of an EPR prototype "to keep the nuclear option open in Europe."
