South African government says "yes" to PBMR

The South African government has given the nod to construction of a demonstration Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) at the Koeberg site and of a fuel fabrication facility for this type of reactor at Pelindaba. The South African ministry of environmental affairs and tourism has made approval contingent on the establishment of a strong waste management program, something the ministry of mining has already begun to do.
