Arrival of two spent-fuel shipments from Germany and the Netherlands

Two shipments of spent fuel, one from Germany and the other from the Netherlands, are expected at the COGEMA rail terminal at Valognes in the next few days.On 12 June, a shipment will arrive from the German nuclear power plants at Biblis (2 casks) and Philippsburg (2 casks).
On 13 June, a shipment will arrive from the Dutch nuclear power plant at Borssele (1 cask).The fuel elements will be placed in the pools at the COGEMA La Hague plant for cooling. They will then be reprocessed to separate out the recyclable materials. The wastes will be conditioned and sent back to Germany and the Netherlands for permanent storage.
