Acidic solution in tank drip tray at UP3 Central Building
Incident report
August 16, 1999
On August 16, 1999, an acidic solution containing 2 grams per liter of plutonium was noticed in the drip tray of a tank in the facility. The solution came from a leaking outlet flange on the pump that transfers solutions from the UP3 analytical laboratory to the T4 facility.
A recommendation was made to the nuclear safety authority to classify the incident, which had no impact on operating personnel or the environment, as a level 1 event on the International Nuclear Event Scale.
