Treatment activity :
During this week, 18.31 tons of spent fuel assemblies from EDF power plants have been processed on the site. From all treated assemblies, a total of 718.67 tons have been processed to date this year. Three of the six lines of vitrification of fission products* were in service.
Since the beginning of the year, 418 canisters have been produced.
Shipment activity :
A shipment containing 8 casks of 91 spent fuel from German nuclear power plants arrived at the railway terminal in Valognes (France) on October 11th at 12.35 am. One cask containing 28 canisters of vitrified residues left the railway terminal in Valognes (France) on October 15th at 2.15 pm. It will be loaded on a specific road trail to be transfered to the storage facility of ZWILAG (Switzerland).
* The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact
