Twelfth transport of vitrified waste from France to Belgium

The transport of one cask containing 28 canisters of vitrified nuclear waste is scheduled to leave TN International’s Valognes railway terminal for Mol (Belgium) in the next days, as soon as operational conditions are met. Upon its arrival at Mol, the cask will be loaded on a special-purpose vehicle then transported to the interim storage facility of BELGOPROCESS in Dessel.

According to commercial contracts signed between the Belgian company SYNATOM and AREVA NC, Belgian spent fuel was sent to France for reprocessing.

Return to Belgium of the vitrified nuclear waste resulting from reprocessing is implemented in accordance with intergovernmental agreements signed by France and Belgium.

The cask used for transport fully complies with the very strict standards defined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Nuclear material transportation meets national and international regulations in order to guarantee a high level of safety.
