Treatment activity:
During this period, 56 tons of spent fuel were processed. From all treated assemblies, a total of 585 tons have been processed to date this year.
During this period, 19 canisters of vitrified fission products has been produced(1) in the vitrification facilities. Since the beginning of the year, 395 canisters have been produced
The facility of hulls compaction (ACC) produced 40 canisters of compacted residues. Since the beginning of the year, 639 canisters have been produced.

According to the contract signed between AREVA and SOGIN, 12 tons of the spent fuel arrived at AREVA La Hague plant on May, 27th.
The treatment of these will be made in 2008. This new contract concerning 235 tons of used fuel shows the interest carried by new countries for the recycling of used fuels.

(1)The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact and resistant glass. This process is called vitrification.
