Bimonthly Report : Production in 2009
In 2009, 929 tons have been processed for recycling. In the vitrification facilities 839 canisters of vitrified fission products(1) have been produced. The facility of hulls compaction produced 1467 canisters of compacted residues.
Since the beginning of 2010, the installations dedicated to the treatment of used fuel are in inter-campaign for maintenance.
In the vitrification facilities 6 canisters of vitrified fission products(1) have been produced.
The facility of hulls compaction produced 20 canisters of compacted residues.
(1)The fission products (ultimate residues of spent fuel) are incorporated in heated glass to approximately 1100°C. The whole is poured in stainless steel containers. The fission products are an integral part of stable, compact and resistant glass. This process is called vitrification.
