ACTIVITIES / MINING
October 01, 2010
AREVA CEO Anne Lauvergeon was in Arlit this morning.
After meeting with the local authorities, she met with AREVA employees and local employee representatives.
More than 2,200 employees work in mining operations there.
Anne Lauvergeon said that it was a very emotional moment for her to be at the very site of the hostages’ abduction. She also reassured our colleagues that the entire company is behind them in this difficult time and that they have her full confidence.
As she mentioned to the Head of State of Niger, during their meeting the day before, Anne Lauvergeon assured them that AREVA will not leave Niger and that business will continue for the long term.
Going beyond the mining operations, she also indicated that the work accomplished in the field with stakeholders in the areas of health, training and education, and environment will not be suspended.
