Triple certification: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001

Environment laboratory at the La Hague facility

The La Hague facility is committed to meeting strict operational and environmental standards. With this in mind, a very strict integrated management system has been put into place. This has enabled the site to be awarded with a triple certification - ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 - which are subject to an annual inspection.

The management system for the AREVA La Hague facility is based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.

  • ISO 9001 version 2000: bringing together the quality management principles present in standards ISO 9000 and 9004, this standard is a step towards a total quality management. Compared to previous versions, it goes into more depth than general guidelines: customer orientation, systematic approach, ongoing improvements.
  • ISO 14001: this standard relates to the environmental management system. It lists 18 requirements based in 6 broad themes: intentions of the facility in environmental terms, objective, planning, implementation of planned initiatives, checks and corrective actions, management review.
  • The OHSAS 18001 standard is a methodological tool with requirements covering every step in the implementation of a health and safety management system.

The facility's environment laboratory is COFRAC accredited

This certification has been regularly renewed since it was first obtained in 1996. The accreditation obtained relates to a certain number of measurements taken on samples taken from the surrounding environment.

Following the development of the COFRAC standard, the laboratory has had to show demonstrable compliance with the new standard (ISO 17025), which places an emphasis on verifying staff competencies and adherence to customer satisfaction. COFRAC (the French Accreditation Committee) is an accreditation body basing its work on international standards.
