Dialog with stakeholders

1,000 jobs for you, close to where you live; stand

The Chalon/Saint Marcel plant implements the AREVA’s policy of dialoguing with its stakeholders. In order to grow with and get involved with the community, the facility organizes open houses.

SOCIAL DIALOGUE

WORKING HOURS AGREEMENT

The social dialogue and negotiation efforts have enabled signature of an agreement on working hours, adapted to development of the plant's activities. This includes, in particular, implementation of a "nonights" operation for employees over 55 working restrictive posts.

PROFIT-SHARING AGREEMENT

The profit-sharing agreement, signed in 2008 for three years has enabled recognition of the collective effort needed for growth of the company's activities, productivity, and profits.

SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT

For the fourth straight year, AREVA Chalon/Saint-Marcel has participated in France’s Employ the Disabled Week, which took place on November 16-20, 2009. The goal of this week is to encourage the employment of disabled persons to as many people as possible.

Chalon/Saint-Marcel participated in two events:

  • An encounter with the DREAM Association, which encourages the insertion of disabled workers at the workplace. Team discovery-trails were set up and for each participating team, money was donated to the association.
  • The ESAT of Montret set up a stand at the week-long event to sell local products and gourmet food baskets prepared by 70 disabled adults. The objective of ESAT is to propose socio-professional integration as close as possible to an ordinary setting by providing individual monitoring and by adapting working conditions.

The Chalon/Saint Marcel plant also regularly calls upon the services of Entreprises Adaptées (AE) and Etablissements et Services d’Aide par le Travail (ESAT), both of which aid the disabled through employment. AREVA Chalon/Saint-Marcel’s purchasing department entrusted the landscaping maintenance services at its CAT Georges Fauconnet site in Crissey to these agencies and also calls upon other similar organizations, such as the IMC des Saugeraies in Mâcon. The services provided were entirely satisfactory and helped disabled workers become integrated both socially and professionally.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

FACILITY VISITS

An industrial showcase, AREVA’s Chalon/Saint-Marcel plant has become, in just a few years’ time, the preferred route of visitors. In 2009, the facility welcomed 4520 visitors.

Among them, middle school, high school and college students were able to learn about the manufacture of heavy components for nuclear power plants, as well as the challenges related to safety/security associated with this activity. The site has welcomed customers from around the world, who have come to monitor the manufacture of their components and learn about new means of production, which undergo constant development. The same is true for many international players in the nuclear field.

Site activities have also benefited from local, national and international media coverage. Many colleagues from various AREVA entities have discovered the component manufacturing workshops. These visits, organized in groups, help strengthen communications and collaboration among the various entities of AREVA.

C. GÉNIAL FOUNDATION

In 2009, Chalon/Saint-Marcel participated in the “Engineers in the classroom” initiative set up by the C.Génial Foundation. 11 of AREVA’s engineers participated in classroom presentations and around 15 visits to the plant were proposed to classes showing the most interest.

A group of 20 teachers made a tour of the site and this has allowed for establishing durable ties with teachers in the region.

Recognized as in the general public good, the C.Génial Foundation was set up in 2006 with the help of the Ministry of Research; its goal is to promote scientific culture in France. It is sponsored by six major French industries (AREVA, EADS, France-Télécom, Schlumberger, SNCF, Technip) and works with partner entities (and specifically with the professional unions of small and medium-sized industries).

FORUM INVOLVEMENT

In 2009, the Chalon/Saint-Marcel facility participated in many career forums and job fairs:

  • the Salon Objectif Métiers (career fair) held Jan 27th – Feb 1st
  • the Carrefour des Carrières au féminin (a career fair for women) on  March 21st
  • the Carrefour des orientations (forum on educational paths) on Feb 13th
  • Bravo l’industrie” (promoting industry) on March 1st
  • Journées portes ouvertes (open house) at the Balleure Lycée on March 27th and 28th
  • Exposition en gare (train station exhibition) during the months of April and May
  • La cité s’insère (integration of youth from poorer suburbs into the job market) on May 28th
  • the Forum des métiers et des formations (career and training forum) on Dec 18th

SPONSORSHIP AND PATRONAGE ACTIVITIES

Since 2001, AREVA has sponsored the Chalon-sur-Saône basketball team, which played in the France Pro A championship division for the 2009/2010 season. The Elan Chalon team finished in 12th place for the regular season. It also played in the Eurochallenge meet, finishing 3rd in its pool of the Top 16, but didn’t succeed in qualifying for the quarter finals.

The Chalon/Saint-Marcel facility has signed a patronage agreement with the Abbey of Cluny entitled “Cluny 2010", on the 1100th birthday of the abbey’s founding. A major 5-year development and refurbishment program has been set up for the abbey by the ENSAM, the National Monuments Center, the Ministry of Culture and Communications and surrounding communities. The project includes restoring and enhancing the abbey and its grounds and developing computer graphics to bring back the Major Ecclesia, the huge cathedral which is no longer there, with the end goal being to create an innovative tour of the site.
