Compliant environmental sampling and analysis

The AREVA group is endeavoring to limit its impact on the environment by reducing its consumption of natural resources, by optimizing its waste management, and by controlling its releases. At Chalon/Saint Marcel, this translates into liquid waste measurements lower than the permitted threshold values.
In accordance with release agreements signed with local purification plants, wastewater released by AREVA's Chalon/Saint Marcel plant is tested regularly, as is rainwater falling within the natural environment. The liquid waste values are lower than the permitted threshold values.
For example, materials suspended in the wastewater released are permitted up to 600mg/l. At the last measurement, in December 2008, it was revealed that the plant was only releasing 348mg/l.
Atmospheric emissions are primarily due to the consumption of natural gas. The latest measurements show an increase in these emissions due to a rise in production natural gas consumption.
In addition, the Chalon/Saint Marcel plant's production does not generate any radioactive emissions into the atmosphere.
