AREVA Newport News (USA): heavy components manufacturing

AREVA Newport News LLC joint-venture in which AREVA holds 67% and Northrop Grumman 33%, was founded in 2008. The company announced on July 2008 the building of a world-class facility, in particular, intended for the manufacturing of heavy components for the U.S. reactor EPR™.
The plant, currently under construction, will be entirely dedicated to the manufacture of nuclear industry heavy components, such as reactor vessels, steam generators and pressurizers.
These component will be manufactured for the first America EPR™ reactors, which will be built in the coming years.
The AREVA Newport News plant, with a surface are of 300,000m2, will be located at the north end of the Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding property in Newport News, Virginia. It represents an investment of over 360 million dollars and will employ over 400 highly qualified people.
In July 2009, AREVA CEO Anne Lauvergeon joined Mike Petters, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, and Newport News Mayor Joe Frank at the site of the new plant for a groundbreaking ceremony that marked a major milestone in the project.
