Environmental monitoring

At the JSPM plant in Jeumont, the aqueous waste and atmospheric emissions are controlled by a specific monitoring program.
Aqueous waste
Preserving the quality of the water is a major priority. The JSPM plant is committed to reducing the impact of its discharges into the aquatic environment, equipping itself with suitable treatment systems and checking the quality of the waste water.
The waste water generated in the plant is non-radioactive aqueous industrial waste. It is monitored as required by regulations.
Atmospheric emissions
The main greenhouse gases taken into account in the AREVA indicators are those of the Kyoto Protocol, namely, as regards JSPM: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (NO2) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFC).
JSPM counts its greenhouse gas emissions according to each related source:
The direct emissions of these gases originate:
- from the transportation of goods,
- from the combustion of fossil fuels (natural gas for the heating of rooms),
- from the possible leaks of coolants and coolers.
