"Pumps and Motors" Center: number 1 in the U.S.
Located in the United States, the Pumps and Motors Services Center site is the largest hot workshop in the country. It extends over more than 4,000 square meters and benefits from state-of-the-art technologies
The Pumps and Motors Services Center for reactor coolant pumps and auxiliary pumps, motors and joints at Lynchburg (Virginia) is an international-class hot workshop. With almost 4 hectares of space and cutting-edge equipment, it is currently the largest site of its kind in the United States.
Equipped with a hot workshop, a controlled radiology zone covering more than 9,000 square meters and capacity to lift 15, 25 and 75 metric tons, this center represents a major asset to help improve the competitiveness and profitability of AREVA's customers in the United States:
- It has facilities for welding, machining and manufacture.
- It implements state-of-the-art technologies for the inspection, repair and renovation of equipment, both for pressurized water reactors (PWR) and boiling water reactors (BWR).
- It guarantees the repair of all types of reactor coolant pumps and re-circulation pumps, as well as motors for the majority of existing reactors - including those of the next generation - by combining JSPM capacities, partnership agreements with Sulzer (original equipment manufacturer for Sulzer and Bingham pumps), and Siemens (original equipment manager for Allis Chalmers and Siemens-Allis motors).
Each year, hundreds of maintenance projects are carried out on components issued from power plants in complete conformity with the regulations in force.
This new facility enables AREVA to respond to the constant increase in demand for services relating to pumps and motors. This demand is led by plant operators looking to improve their installations’ performance reliability.
