Nuclear safety and radiation protection

For 40 years, AREVA has been offering solutions to countries, international nuclear safety organizations and defense forces to enable them to meet their obligations to protect people and the environment, and for the assurance of nuclear non-proliferation control mechanisms.
The Nuclear Measurement business unit is oriented around 3 platforms:
Environmental safety
Thanks to its radiological measuring and detection solutions, AREVA helps countries to protect themselves from radiological hazards. This includes international efforts to:
- combat the misappropriation of nuclear materials and prevent malicious acts (terrorism, etc.);
- intercept smugglers;
- respond to nuclear incidents rapidly and effectively in order to limit their consequences.
Non-proliferation
The Nuclear Measurement business unit aims to serve international nuclear monitoring organizations such as the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and Euratom. These organizations are responsible for accurate and rapid detection of unauthorized cross-border transit of nuclear fissile material.
Thanks to its expertise in nuclear measuring and through regular close cooperation with international safety organizations, AREVA designs and manufactures solutions to suit its customers’ needs. These include radioactivity detectors, tools for inspecting seals, etc.
Defense
AREVA designs and manufactures radiation detectors adapted to the requirements of the defense industry. Portable detectors from the Radiacs range are used by the US and NATO armed forces. The US army also uses nuclear explosion detection equipment.
