General presentation

Helion employee

The Renewable Energies Business Group is intended to expand AREVA's offer to provide CO2 free energy production solutions. Its portfolio of activities meet market requirements in terms of energy combinations: wind energy, biomass, solar power and hydrogen power, as well as energy storage.

Business in full development

The Renewable Energies Business Group is positioned within four business sectors undergoing strong growth, through dedicated Business Units.

Wind energy

  • The business: the supply of M5000 offshore high power turbines (5 MW) which convert the wind's motive force into electricity.
  • Statistics: by 2014 AREVA expected to have 120 wind turbine installed in the sea

Bioenergy

  • The business: the supply of turnkey biomass power plants enabling the conversion of organic matter of animal and plant origin into energy.
  • Statistics: AREVA is the world leader with more than 100 bioenergy power plants in operation or under construction in Europe, in Latin America and in Asia.

Solar power

  • The business: the supply of turnkey solar power plants using either concentrated thermodynamic technology, or concentrated photovoltaic technology.
  • Statistics: in 2009, the production capacity for concentrated solar power plants has increased by more than 1 Gigawatt the world over.

Hydrogen power and energy storage

  • The business: the supply of solutions for the production of hydrogen through water electrolysis and the generation of electricity through fuel cells. The principle of electrolyzers is to "crush" the water molecules, by means of the introduction of electricity, to obtain hydrogen and oxygen. The principle of the cells consists of combining the hydrogen and oxygen using a membrane to simultaneously create electricity, heat and water.
  • Statistics: 1 kg of hydrogen is equivalent to 2.75 kg of gasoline.
