A critical mission

AREVA Med develops innovative techniques to produce industrial quantities of medical-grade 212Pb.
The subsidiary also works with world-class research institutions to develop new treatments for diseases such as pancreatic, ovarian and breast cancer.
Building on AREVA's expertise to advance nuclear medicine
Engineers at the group’s La Hague recycling facility and other R&D facilities in France spent years developing a process to produce medical isotopes using nuclear materials.
Research has shown that 212Pb could be a critical key to certain cancer treatments. It has, however, traditionally existed in very limited quantities.
Through the TAO project, AREVA Med has focused its efforts on increasing the availability of medical-grade 212Pb for cancer research and treatments such as alpha radioimmunotherapy (alpha RIT), a very powerful targeting therapy.
Next phase: testing
AREVA Med has obtained authorization from the United States Food and Drug Administration to begin human clinical trails of 212Pb alpha RIT.
