TAO project

In 2003, a team working at La Hague came up with the idea of extracting 212Pb from AREVA’s industrial activities. The main research was focused on:
- extracting 212Pb from uranyl nitrate or thorium,
- purifying it to the levels required for use in medical applications.
Group innovation supporting medical research
Since its official formation in 2006, the Thorium of AREVA for Oncology (TAO) project has made tremendous progress, both technically and in terms of partnership with the scientific community.
The project now involves many group entities on both sides of the Atlantic.
AREVA’s Recycling business unit, Mining business group and Logistics business unit have provided significant support, as have many other group entities and support functions.
In just a few years, the AREVA teams involved in the TAO project have been able to demonstrate their ability to apply innovative thinking and practices to transform a bold idea into a tangible reality.
