COMINOR: gold producer in Africa

COMINOR is a holding company that owns equity interests in 3 gold mining companies in Africa.
In 2006, AREVA and the Canadian company, La Mancha Resources Inc., combined their gold mining and exploration activities. AREVA supplied its gold mining activities through COMINOR, in exchange for a 63.55% stake in La Mancha.
Today, the COMINOR holding company has stakes in the following companies:
- Ariab Mining Company, which operates several mines in Sudan’s Hassaï region, 600 kilometers northeast of Khartoum. Its production in 2008 was 2,276 kilograms of gold.
- Compagnie Minière d'Afrique, which mined the Angovia deposit on the Ivory Coast in the Yamoussoukro region, 300 kilometers north of Abidjan. Its annual production was around 1.5 metric tons of gold. Activity has been stopped since the end of 2003 when reserves were depleted. Site rehabilitation work was completed in 2004.
- Société des Mines d'Ity, which operates the Ity mine on the Ivory Coast, approximately 700 kilometers northwest of Abidjan. In 2008, its production was 1.694 kilograms of gold.
