Premiere European producer of fluorine
The fluorine needed for conversion operations is continuously produced at the COMURHEX site. Today, AREVA is the premiere European producer of fluorine and the second at a global level. Building on its expertise in the domain of fluorine derivatives, COMURHEX has developed a series of fluorinated products:
- Production of nitrogen fluoride, used in the automobile industry to treat plastic materials and seal gas tanks.
- Production of chlorine trifluoride, needed to clean the enrichment barriers at the Georges Besse plant, used in the fabrication of microprocessors at high levels of purity..
Sale of technology
AREVA is promoting its globally recognized expertise in the defluorination of depleted uranium, selling its technology to international industrial players. AREVA’s know-how means customers can securely store this recoverable material and produce hydrofluoric acid, which is marketable in the chemical industry.
