FBFC Dessel: assembly production in Belgium

Fuel assembly inspection at the FBFC plant in Dessel

FBFC (French acronym for Franco-Belgian Fuel Fabrication), a subsidiary of AREVA, produces fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors of the PWR type (Pressurized Water Reactor). The Dessel site is located in Belgium.

The FBFC plant located in Dessel, Belgium manufactures:

  • fuel assemblies for pressurized water reactors, but also for boiling water reactors
  • MOX fuel assemblies for pressurized water reactors and boiling water reactors

FBFC Dessel also fabricates:

  • pellets with gadolinium oxide mixed in with uranium oxide powder
  • rods
  • plugs and spring packs
