AREVA’s AVARIS –the Valve Repair in Situ- is one example. This new process has been developed for refurbishing valve seats. For power plant operators, AVARIS is great news: the new technology saves both cost and time as it is no longer necessary to replace the valve bodies and go through all the ensuing consequences such as a re-evaluation of the piping system and other certification processes mandatory for new materials. AVARIS has already been successfully put to the test in Isar 2 nuclear power plant (Germany) where two gate valves of different nominal width were refurbished.
