Transmission and Distribution: AREVA awarded 150 million euro contract by DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority)

AREVA strengthened its partnership with DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) by signing a 150 million euro contract for the delivery of two high-voltage (400 kV) substations in Dubai. The contract was awarded in partnership with Hyundai Heavy Industries that will supply four power transformers.

AREVA's substations will help DEWA meet the Emirate's increasing demand for electricity due to its rapid urban expansion.

DEWA chose AREVA thanks to the group's strong project delivery track record and leadership position on the Middle East's high-voltage market.

This success follows the 500 million euro contract awarded to AREVA in January 2008 by Qatari utility, Kahramaa, as part of its grid expansion program.

Marco Graziano, Executive Vice-President of AREVA's International Sales Organization for its T&D activities, explains: “Thanks to our robust local setup, we are able to provide DEWA with solutions that match their expectations. With the installation of this equipment, our customer will benefit from our latest technologies that minimize power losses and thereby help reduce CO-2 emissions. This new success also reinforces our leading position in the region.”
