AREVA signs safety instrumentation & control cooperation agreement with Russian company VNIIAES

AREVA and VNIIAES signed a cooperation agreement in the field of safety Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems for the first four VVER-type reactors to be built in Russia as part of the country’s new build fleet program. The agreement refers to two new 1200 MWe reactors on the Novovoronezh and Leningrad existing sites, located respectively in the west and south-west of Russia. In the frame of this agreement, the companies signed a first engineering contract as well as a letter of intent (LOI) for the delivery contracts to come.

This recent agreement is similar to the one signed in 2008 between the two companies for the modernization of the Kola nuclear power plant, situated in the far north of Russia using the TELEPERM XS control system.

TELEPERM XS is AREVA’s digital safety I&C system platform based on state-of-the-art hardware and software standards. The group has extensive experience in implementing safety I&C systems in VVER-type reactors. References include the two newly-built VVER reactors in Tianwan, China, the modernization of the Loviisa plant in Finland, as well as the Belene nuclear power plant project in Bulgaria.

VNIIAES is a subsidiary of Russian nuclear group Rosatom and the integrator of the safety I&C systems for Russia’s new-build program.
