Transmission and Distribution: AREVA inaugurates eight factories to meet India’s growing demand for energy

 €150 million investment
Advanced technology extra and ultra high voltage capabilities

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division will inaugurate eight factories on three sites in Vadodara, 350,000 sqm (State of Gujarat), Hosur, 90,000 sqm, and Padappai, 21,400 sqm (State of Tamil Naidu) this week. Driven by the Indian market’s growing demands for more electrical equipment and services, this marks the successful close of nearly €150 million investment.

With the expected demand for electricity, under the Government’s 11th and 12th five year plans an additional 161 GW of new power generation will be added by 2020 and significant investments made in the electrical grid. With its new factories, AREVA will supply substations and equipment at highest voltage levels to support the country’s growing demand.

"With this substantial investment, we will further reinforce AREVA T&D’s clear leadership in extra high voltage in India and position ourselves for the future ultra high voltage technology, including with full localization of these offers. We also expect to create more than 1,500 direct jobs as well as several thousand indirect jobs over the next four years," said Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of AREVA’s T&D division.
