The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD, founded in 1995) regroups 160 international firms committed to sustainable development. Claude Fussler, Director for Stakeholders Relations at WBCSD expresses his views.

ARESE (founded in 1997) is the first French social and environmental rating agency of European companies. It analyses and rates companies for social and environmental sustainability. Viewpoint of Thierry Marneffe, CEO of ARESE.

In your opinion, should we - or can we - consider a company as a responsible entity and, as such, accountable to society at large?
Which would be, in your view, the first two obvious signs that a company is seriously committed to sustainable development? And who is to evaluate the reality and authenticity of the criteria you apply?
Is SD an "in" concept, a necessary mutation, improvements to be invented, a world vision, a technocratic creation, a new consciousness, history in progress, a challenge for the XXIst century, a point in a cycle... or something else?
Since you have been engaged in promoting sustainable development, what main changes have you felt like bringing to your life?
