Which uses are the biggest energy guzzlers?

The top four energy consumption items in OECD countries are as follows: 23% for industry, 23% for transport, 21% for electricity production and 21% for residential and service-sector power. But what is most important are the trends in each area. Industry consumption is rising only slightly, while the energy used to generate electricity and power transport vehicles has jumped by 25% in 10 years. Electricity consumption is rising as households acquire more equipment and information technology spreads, and transportation energy use is outpacing GDP with the constant rise in personal mobility, and changes in the way production is organized and globalization.
