Ethics




To continue its strides forward, AREVA has sought the counsel of prominent individuals from the community, creating its own Science and Ethics Commission.

Chaired by François Ewald, this commission is a think tank focused on public perceptions of science and technology, the role of the company in its environment and other important subjects.

Members of the AREVA Science and Ethics Commission:


• Roger Balian: Chairman of the Société française de Physique, member of the Académie des sciences

• Francis Balle: Professor at Université Paris II, former member of the Comité supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA - French audiovisual authority)

• Geneviève Barrier-Jacob: Professor Emeritus at the Faculté Necker-Enfants malades (children's hospital), former director of Samu (the French emergency medical service), and former member of the National Ethics Advisory Committee

• Christian de Boissieu: Economist

• Edouard Brezin: Chairman of the Académie des sciences

• Georges Charpak: Nobel Prize in Physics

• François Ewald: Professor at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (CNAM) and Chairman of AREVA's Science and Ethics Commission

• Roland Masse: Member of the Académie des technologies, former chairman of the Office de Protection contre les Rayonnements Ionisants (French radiation protection agency)

• Michel Serres: science historian and member of the Académie française

• Alain Touraine: sociologist and department chair at the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS)

• Maurice Tubiana: former chairman of the Académie de médecine, member of the Académie des sciences, where he chairs the Environment Committee, and chairman of the Centre Antoine-Béclère (hospital and medical care center)
