Nuclear site value development

The Nuclear site value development business unit designs dismantling operations for old nuclear sites to enable their reuse and oversees their execution.
Value development occurs at the end of the industrial use of facilities and constitutes a second life for the sites.

The business unit's activities are broken down into three business lines:

operation of facilities to be dismantled

 leadership for facility dismantling

operating support functions, if necessary, for the dismantling business (waste packaging, effluent treatment, etc.).

The dismantling operations themselves are organized into four stages, including a preparation stage and three separate phases of execution:

 Preparation

The preparation phase consists of assessing resource requirements, establishing operations to be performed, validating administrative processes and licensing/permits.

 Execution

The first phase of execution involves cleaning up the process by recovering all radioactive materials present in the facilities

The second phase of execution involves the take-down of equipment and structures

Execution concludes with clean-up and civil engineering needed to decommission or demolish the facilities, depending on whether they will be reused.

At each stage of the process, the business unit brings know-how to optimize management of the waste resulting from dismantling. To the extent possible, materials recovered during clean-up are processed and packaged to recycle reusable materials.

 Customers

The French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) is the business unit's leading customer.

 Locations

The Nuclear site value development business unit includes some of the UP2-400 facilities at La Hague, the Marcoule and Cadarache sites, and the SICN sites in Veurey and Annecy.

Within the AREVA group, the Nuclear site value development operations are handled by AREVA NC.
