Plants

The Plants business unit designs, builds and starts up nuclear islands (nuclear steam supply systems, reactors, etc.), which are the elements that make up a nuclear power plant.

The business unit also supplies monitoring systems and engineering services in order to upgrade existing reactors and to improve their performance.

With 100,000 MWe of installed power and some 100 reactors in service, the group is offering its customers:

two types of light water reactor:

 Pressurized Water Reactors (REP),
 Boiling Water Reactors (REB),

 two types of "3rd-generation" reactor:

"Siede Wasser Reaktor" (SWR-1000), the new generation of boiling water reactors,
"Evolutionary Power Reactor" (EPR), a new pressurized water reactor.

The business unit also supplies 2nd-generation reactors that are better suited to some customers' requirements, as well as research reactors for the research community. The business unit's customers are nuclear power station operators.

The EPR is the only 3rd-generation reactor currently under construction in the world. The EPR offers significant performance improvements, a very high level of safety, simpler operating and maintnance conditions, while enabling a 17% reduction in uranium consumption and a 15% reduction in the amount of spent fuel produced.

Within the AREVA group, Plants operations are handled by AREVA NP.
