27 improvements to modernize fuel fabrication lines

The vibratory loading system, Richland (USA)

Framatome ANP*, an AREVA and Siemens company, has completed the installation of advanced fuel fabrication lines at its Richland and Lynchburg facilities in the USA.

The design of the lines and installed equipment were chosen following a worldwide evaluation of the best manufacturing practices available within the company.

The changes include new manufacturing processes for loading the fuel rods and welding end caps. In all, some 27 equipment and process improvements have been made at each of the two facilities, establishing a new state-of-the-art for both reactors PWR and BWR fuel manufacturing.
