Reduction in nitrate waste by 4: 30 tons instead of 120 |

CEZUS, a subsidiary of Framatome ANP*, an AREVA and Siemens company, manufactures zirconium tubes which house the uranium pellets in nuclear reactor cores. This involves many operations, such as tube reduction, cleaning, degreasing, and descaling, which produce waste harmful to the environment. Thus the company has invested in "clean" equipment and has installed a spent fluonitric acid recycling unit. Up to 70% of these acids can be recovered. This innovative process of evaporation-crystallization in a vacuum received a European subsidy (LIFE project) and financing from the French regional Loire-Bretagne water agency. |
